“Ball Don’t Lie,” Feature Film

“Ball Don’t Lie” plays out over one day in the life of Sticky (streetball legend Grayson “The Professor” Boucher), a skinny high school junior and basketball prodigy from Venice, California. Burdened with emotional scars from early life tragedy and Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder, Sticky manages to transcend his limitations whenever he has a basketball in his hands.  Maxim plays 7-year-old Sticky in flashbacks of defining moments from his past: an unhinged, prostitute mother (Emilie de Ravin) and her abusive boyfriend (Nick Cannon), a callous foster care system, a sweet moment spent in the care of kind, nurturing Francine (Rosanna Arquette) that ended all too quickly. Abuse, abandonment, rejection, and disappointment all conspire to drive Sticky farther and farther away from trusting … or loving … anyone.  “Ball Don’t Lie” premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2008.
